Everything You Get with Plus
Full GPT-5 Model Access
Plus subscribers get access to the full GPT-5 model, which is significantly more capable than the GPT-4o mini and limited GPT-5.3 available on Free. GPT-5 excels at complex reasoning, nuanced writing, mathematical problem-solving, and multi-step analysis. You get approximately 80 messages per 3-hour window, which resets automatically and is sufficient for most work sessions. During off-peak hours, limits may be slightly higher.
Deep Research (10 Runs/Month)
Deep Research is one of the most compelling Plus features. It performs multi-step web research that would typically take a human 30-60 minutes, synthesising information from dozens of sources into a comprehensive report with citations. Each run takes 2-5 minutes and produces a detailed analysis. At 10 runs per month, you need to use them strategically, but for important research tasks they save enormous amounts of time. Pro subscribers get 250 runs for comparison.
DALL-E Image Generation
Create images directly within ChatGPT using DALL-E. This is useful for generating illustrations, social media graphics, concept art, and visual brainstorming. Free and Go users do not have access to image generation at all, making this a significant Plus advantage. You can generate multiple images per conversation and iterate on designs with natural language instructions.
Agent Mode and Codex
Agent Mode allows ChatGPT to perform multi-step tasks autonomously, such as researching a topic, writing a report, and formatting it. Codex is a specialised coding assistant that can write, debug, and explain code across dozens of programming languages. Sora Video and Voice Mode

Both features are exclusive to Plus and above; Free and Go users get only basic voice capabilities.
Ad-Free Experience
Since February 2026, the Free and Go tiers display contextual advertisements in the US. Plus subscribers enjoy a completely ad-free experience. While the ads on Free/Go are relatively unobtrusive, the clean interface of Plus makes for a more professional and focused work environment. This is particularly important if you use ChatGPT for client-facing work or screen sharing during meetings.

The Value Calculation

The Deep Research feature alone can save hours per use. A single well-executed Deep Research run that replaces 45 minutes of manual research is worth the entire monthly subscription. With 10 runs per month, the research capability alone justifies the cost for knowledge workers.
Compared to the API, Plus offers better value for interactive use. Using GPT-5 through the API costs $1.25 per million input tokens and $10.00 per million output tokens. A heavy API user processing 2 million input and 500K output tokens daily would spend about $155 per month, far exceeding the Plus subscription. How to Sign Up, Cancel, or Switch
Sign Up
Visit chatgpt.com and sign in to your account. Click your profile icon, select "My Plan", and choose ChatGPT Plus. You can pay with credit card, debit card, or Apple Pay. Your subscription starts immediately and you gain instant access to all Plus features.
Cancel
Go to Settings, then Subscription, and click "Cancel Plan". You keep Plus access until the end of your current billing period. No cancellation fee applies. Your conversations and custom GPTs are preserved even after downgrading to Free.
Switch Plans
Upgrade to Pro or downgrade to Go from your Subscription settings. Upgrades take effect immediately with prorated billing. Downgrades apply at the end of your current period. You can also move to Business if your employer sets up a workspace.
