What Changed in 2026

ChatGPT Go Launched

OpenAI launched the Go plan globally in January 2026 at $8/month, filling the gap between Free and Plus. It targets budget-conscious users who want more than the free tier but do not need Deep Research or image generation. Go provides unlimited access to GPT-5.2 Instant, 10x the file and image upload limits of the Free plan, and extended conversational memory. The trade-off is that Go includes advertisements in the United States market, a first for a paid ChatGPT tier.

Team Became Business

In August 2025, OpenAI rebranded the Team plan as ChatGPT Business. The pricing stayed the same at $25/user/month on annual billing, but the rebrand came with new features including 60+ app integrations with services like Slack, Google Drive, SharePoint, and GitHub. The Business plan also gained enhanced admin controls and improved SAML SSO support, positioning it more clearly as a mid-market enterprise solution.

GPT-5.4 Released

March 2026 brought the release of GPT-5.4, the latest iteration in the GPT-5 model family. The GPT-5.4 Pro variant is exclusive to Pro subscribers at $200/month and represents the most capable model OpenAI has ever offered. For API users, the GPT-5 base model costs $1.25 per million input tokens and $10.00 per million output tokens, representing a major cost reduction from the GPT-4 era.

Ads on Free and Go

In February 2026, OpenAI introduced advertisements on the Free and Go tiers in the United States. This marked the first time ChatGPT has shown ads to users. The ads appear contextually within conversations and are designed to be non-intrusive, but they represent a significant shift in OpenAI's monetisation strategy. Plus and Pro subscribers remain completely ad-free, which adds value to those higher-priced tiers.
